Alright. The Transistors are releasing their brand new video and single for "Abandoned". Plus, they hook up with the Hill.
It's not been a well kept secret, but Arch Hill Recordings are super pleased to officially announce that the Transistors are on board. We will be releasing their scorching second album later in 2012. We've heard it and we're excited. You should be too.
Here is description of their new video for Abandoned: "The Transistors aim to win back the "Ex Girlfriend" by playing a private show in her room for her. The show gets a little out of hand and the boys end up destroying lots of her belongings, murdering her new boyfriend with a chainsaw and losing any chance of winning her back. This is all set inside the ex girlfriends bedroom and is very light hearted with a dark twist."
The video was directed by Levi Beamish and produced by Adam Thompson the superstar duo from Chrysalis Films. They are also responsible for Street Chant's "Frail Girls" and
Beach Pigs "Catch Up In The Sun" (plus other great videos)

Damian Golfinopoulos describes the process of making the video as follows:
"Salad Daze was 'shot' and mixed on the charming but obsolete VHS format using an old, tempramental 70's camera and a cheap late 80's video mixer.
I insisted that we do away with all the baggage usually involved in making a video: lighting, storyboards, ideas, crew, tripods etc. I had faith that regardless of what we did, that the VHS would sort it all out.
For most of the shoot I used a borrowed chunk of blu-tac to keep the camera attached to my recording unit. If I got…

Last week Arch Hill Recordings re-released the Beach Bigs EP. But we knew the intrepid among you had already discovered it, so we decided to quickly follow it up with a brand new song "Catch Up In The Sun".
Below is the brand new video for the track which was filmed up on the on the Tutukaka Coast at Sandy Bay, 3 hours drive north of Auckland. The band played outside on Dahnu's (Beach Pigs' singer) family land for his birthday. To reach it, they had to either take a 4WD drive or walk 1km from the road, which the band and friends all did (along with gear, a generator and party supplies). The people in the video are a mixture of friends and family celebrating Dahnu's 21st.

While playing alt-country influenced acoustic music with his sister in law, Stephen (the Haints of Dean Hall/The Subliminals), raised with Richard his concern that he might never use his mesa boogie amp and make rock music again. Some time later, a group of friends was mutually assembled, based around the notion of playing at higher volumes.
Songs were written around simple guitar riffs, left for complex exploration by the rhythm section of Jared (The Subliminals/Theives) and Jasper (Meterman). The resulting tunes were played at a small number of local venues, before the group recorded this first collection of songs.
The seven songs were recorded in a single day by the band and Nich Cunningham (Black Door Studios). Long time collaborator Tex Houston (The Clean, Subliminals, 3ds etc) mixed and mastered the tracks in his Dunedin studio.
Faults are Stephen Reay, Richard Worrall, Jared Johanson, Jasper de Roos.

New Zealand power-pop trio Street Chant aren’t a band known for their inactivity. In their earlier
days and prior incarnation as Mean Street, the band became notorious for playing nigh on every weekend in their hometown of Auckland. Greater exposure led to multiple national tours, including one with formerly Flying Nun luminaries The 3Ds, followed closely by a much-envied opening slot for The Dead Weather’sAustralasian trip. Riding high on this success, in mid-2010 their debut album ‘Means’ was released. The album received high praise both locally and abroad, and with their victory in the inaugural Critics’ Choice category at the New Zealand Music Awards (not to mention adoring coverage from local news media), their profile in their homeland reached a status rarely afforded to local indie acts.
To the benefit of the citizens of Aotearoa, and now to the world, it doesn’t appear that this increased exposure has put them in any mind to slow down.
Following trips stateside to the CMJ Music Marathon and South By Southwest festivals, as well as a successful 2011 West Coast tour with indie rock elder statesmen The Lemonheads and multiple New Zealand and Australian tours, the band has spent much of the past year writing and recording the much-anticipated follow-up to ‘Means’. After much tweaking, this May will see the release of the first two tracks from their as-yet-untitled sophomore effort, on limited edition double A-side 7” vinyl. …
