On June 6^th Family Cactus release their second album “Spirit Lights” through Arch Hill Recordings

A lot has happened for this Wellington band since they released “Come Howling”, their critically acclaimed debut album in 2009.

During these two years Family Cactus released “Come Howling” in the USA, recorded “Spirit Lights” in Wellington (The Surgery) and Auckland (Roundhead Studio), mastered it in New York (Sterling Sound), lived for a few months in an apartment in Brooklyn, played shows in New York and Washington DC, had a number of line up changes, had a close and mutual friend of the band pass away and moved to a new record label.

None of this has been easy, but it has made their album “Spirit Lights” all the better for it.

The Family Cactus are releasing their second album "Spirit Lights" on Arch Hill on 30th of May 2011. It will be available as a CD and download on the Arch Hill website from Monday 30th.

The album was recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, The Surgery in Wellington. It was then mastered in New York at Stirling Sounds by Greg Calbi late 2010 - while the band were based there for several months.
To celebrate the release of the album the Family Cactus are playing a couple of shows in Auckland and Wellington - to be followed by a more extensive tour later in 2011.

New FAMILY CACTUS Video: Whole and Red is from the new Family Cactus album Spirit Lights out June 6th 2011 on Arch Hill Recordings. This video of the song was performed, recorded and filmed completely live at the historic dilapidated Erskine College. The band completed as series of performances there filmed and edited by Bryson Rooney.
