"Local release Introducing Arch Hill Recordings (Arch Hill) celebrates a very different approach to guitar driven pop. Some say that the gently jangling guitar lines and honey dripping, acid tripping melodies that made early Flying Nun records so magical are now more likely to be found on Auckland's Arch Hill label and on first listen this might appear to be true. The sounds of the Bats, The Clean, The Chills and Look Blue Go Purple are certainly all over Introducing - not because the Arch Hill bands are mere copyists but because they have a common lineage and similar influences and musical aspirations. Hell, a lot of them even have the same members. Clearly, no one local label has the national franchise on emotional introspective indie pop" (NZ Sunday Star Times)
**** "This sampler from Auckland Label Arch Hill shows the quirky, tuneful side of New Zealand pop music is alive a kicking. It's a mellow collection. The contributing bands (Pine Lanky, Fang and others) have great songwriters, among whom are ex-members of The JPSE, Superette, The Stereo bus, The Subliminals and Polaar." (Wellington: Capital Times)

Pavement "The little label that could! Arch Hill grew out of a group of friends who hung out at a recording studio called Arch Hill, hence the labels name. Many were former Flying Nun alumni from JPS Experience, Superette and David Kilgours band the Heavy Eights. Now years down the line they've consolidate their efforts with this tidy package. The style here is built around gentle washes of guitar and clever pop songs, for want of a better term.....some very classy tunes that thrive on a good melody." That's got to be saying something eh? This is predominantly pop music, but not the kind you are likely to find in the mainstream singles charts. It's more the lo-fi indie, no commercial consideration, the b-net play us kind. Many good songs reside here and since its inception in 1998, seem to have built up quite a collective... This compilation establishes Arch Hill as an important indie label and it's well worth getting your hands on."
